April
22, 2001 – Slinger Super Speedway Rained out
April
29, 2001– Slinger Super Speedway Ron Weyer appeared to be on his way to his second career Midwest Modified feature win as he led the first 27 laps of the 30 lap event before Larry Reihbrandt hooked his car up to the outside groove and motored by into the lead. Reihbrandt held on to take the season opening victory over Weyer while first year modified driver Dan Jung finished an impressive third. Veterans Dale Prunty and Alan Keppert completed the top five. In other Midwest Modified action, Dan Miller was the fastest qualifier at 12.485 seconds.

May
9, 2001– Slinger Super Speedway Jeff Holtz (Muskego)won
his Midwest Modified Feature by holding off Steve Lurvey (Dousman) and Dale
Prunty (Allenton). Lurvey held the early lead over J. Holtz, Larry Reihbrandt (Wauwatosa),
Mike Held (Slinger), and Lenny Gallenberg III (Kewaskum) before Reihbrandt
tangled and hit the wall to bring out the Safety Crew. Reihbrandt was taken in
the ambulance for precautionary measures when his leg was agitated and was later
released at the track. Holtz held the lead after the cautions and claimed is
first victory win for the 2001 points season at the speedway. While Lurvey took
the second spot and Prunty held off fast qualifier Chris Peterson (Cedarburg)
with Gallenberg to round out the top five. Petersons fast time checked in at
12.439 seconds.
May
11, 2001– Madison International Speedway
In
Midwest Modified action, defending track champion Dale Prunty of Allenton
claimed top honors in the 10 lap main event. Starting from the outside of row 2
Prunty headed toward the front as Michael Grueneberg of Madison took the early
lead.
Grueneberg
led the way for 1 lap before being overtaken by Prunty. At the finish it was
Prunty for the win followed by Andy Anderson of Oregon, Grueneberg, Paul
Treuthardt of Monroe and Kevin Swenson of Brooklyn.
Prunty
set the fast qualifying pace, at 19.290 seconds and won the 6 lap heat race.
May
13, 2001– Slinger Super Speedway Brian Holtz
completed a late race drive to the front by winning the 30 lap Midwest Modified
feature.
May
20, 2001– Slinger Super Speedway
Dan
Miller won his first feature event of the season in the 30 lap Midwest Modified
main event.
May
27, 2001– Slinger Super
Speedway
Brian
Holtz won the 30 lap modified feature over Steve Lurvey and the new comer Dan
Jung. Holtz had everything going his way most of the event as he survived a
caution at the half way mark involving five cars and pulled out to a six car
length advantage only to see a late caution on lap 19 to bunch up the field.
Holtz
pulled away from Lurvey as Dan Jung began to fight for second only to end up in
third with Lenny Gallenberg and Dale Prunty to follow. Jung also claimed a first
place victory in the Eldorado Trailer Sales Fast Dash while Jeff Holtz walked
away with a fast time of 12.527 seconds.
June
3, 2001– Slinger Super
Speedway
Jeff
Holtz won his second 30-lap Midwest modified feature event of the season by
holding off a determined Dale Prunty and Chris Petersen. Pole-sitter Kevin
Kenealy led the opening laps while Holtz charged from his third starting spot to
challenge for the lead by the fourth lap.
Holtz
was able to pull alongside on the outside as both cars exited turn two on lap
five but when Kenealy’s car drifted outward, Holtz ran out of real estate and
his car kicked sideways.
Holtz
did a brilliant job of keeping his car out of the wall and was able to keep
going but the jam up behind collected numerous cars including Russ Grade who hit
the turn three wall, bringing out the caution.
Kenealy
was placed at the rear of the field for his involvement in the incident which
handed the lead to Holtz for the restart. With Holtz leading, Prunty and
Petersen sliced through traffic to move into second and third place
respectively.
Prunty
had the fastest car on the track but appeared to not have enough time to make up
the distance between himself and Holtz until a lap 21 caution for an incident
involving Mike Held and Paul Treuthardt erased Holtz’s advantage. Holtz was
able to withstand the charges of both Prunty and Petersen over the remaining
nine laps and held on to take the win. Steve Lurvey finished fourth while Brian
Holtz moved up to finish fifth.
June 8, 2001– Madison International Speedway
In
Midwest Modified action, Tim Lemirande of Verona puled out a last lap victory,
in the 12 lap main event. Starting from the inside of row 3, Lemirande followed
Andy Anderson of Oregon toward the front as Bruce Wilberg of Stoughton led the
field. Anderson motored past Wilberg, on lap 5, with Lemirande close behind.
Anderson and Lemirande battled all the way to the white flag, with Lemirande,
seemingly, unable to find the room he needed. As they bore down on the white
flag, Anderson slipped a bit coming out of turn 4. This was the opening
Lemirande needed, as he moved under Anderson to make his bid. The pair battled
side by side, over the final lap, with Lemirande seizing the win, by a half
fender advantage over Anderson. Rounding out the top 5 were Eldon Zacek of St.
Peters MO, Dale Prunty of Allenton and Wilberg.
June
10, 2001– Slinger Super
Speedway
Dan
Miller scored his first feature victory of the season by claiming top honors in
the 30 lap Midwest Modified feature. Miller started on the pole and fell into
second place at the start behind early leader Larry Reihbrandt while Lenny
Gallenberg, Brian Holtz, and Ron Weyer filled in the third through fifth
positions. Reihbrandt and Miller raced alongside each other for the first four
laps until Miller powered ahead on the outside to take sole possession of the
lead.
Miller
led the rest of the way as the event was completed without a caution flag
despite some close contact, bump-and-run racing throughout the field. Reihbrandt,
Holtz, and Gallenberg were able to keep Miller in their sights but couldn't work
together to gain ground on the leader. Miller held a three car length advantage
at the checkered flag as Holtz grabbed second place on the final lap after some
close racing with Reihbrandt. Gallenberg also slipped by to grab third place as
Reihbrandt was shuffled back to fourth. Dale Prunty made a late race run to
finish fifth.
In
other Midwest Modified action, Gallenberg claimed the win in the fast dash while
Chris Petersen set fast time for the first time in his career by touring the
speedway in 12.520 seconds.
June
13, 2001–
Slinger Super Speedway
On
the restart, Prunty was able to mount a challenge for the lead on the outside.
Prunty used the outer groove to power by for the lead on lap eight, bringing J.
Holtz with him to drop Jung back to third. B. Holtz and Chris Petersen also got
by Jung who received the consolation flag a few laps later when he was judged to
have not held his line in the turns. J. Holtz dogged Prunty for eight laps
before motoring by to take the lead on lap 16. Holtz led to the finish to score
the win over Prunty while B. Holtz held off Petersen for third. Dan Miller
finished fifth.
In
other modified action, Prunty won the dash and Alan Keppert was the fastest
qualifier with a lap of 12.639 seconds.
June
17, 2001–
Slinger Super Speedway
Jeff
Holtz claimed his fourth Midwest Modified 30 lap feature win of the season in
dramatic fashion with a last lap pass in one of the most competitive events of
the year. Russ
Grade and Gregg Pawelski traded the lead in the early going while Alan Keppert
and Larry Reihbrandt led a tight back of cars racing for third. Grade pulled
ahead of Pawelski and grabbed the top spot on lap eight. Grade worked the
outside lane and kept the inside running Pawelski at bay as brothers Jeff and
Brian Holtz worked their way up from deep in the field to enter the top five.
A
spin by Reihbrandt on lap 21 produced the caution flag with Grade still holding
off Pawelski. J. Holtz was in third place on the restart and along with his
brother and Dale Prunty dogged Grade and Pawelski for the lead.
Grade
drifted wide in turn two with two laps to go allowing Pawelski to grab the lead
and J. Holtz to move into second. On the final lap Holtz ran hard in the outside
groove and was able to motor alongside Pawelski in the final corner. As both
drivers crossed the finish line, Holtz edged ahead to take the win by inches
over Pawelski. Brian Holtz finished third as Grade and Prunty rounded out the
top five.
In
other Midwest Modified action, Ed Grober won the dash and Steve Lurvey was the
fastest qualifier with a lap of 12.564 seconds.
June
24, 2001–
Slinger Super Speedway
Larry
Reihbrandt won a thrilling 30 lap Midwest modified feature by holding off a
determined Chris Petersen. Ed Grober led the opening 21 laps as Reihbrandt and
Petersen held onto the second and third positions.
Petersen
dogged Reihbrandt over the final nine laps as Jeff Holtz quickly moved from
fifth to third. Petersen used the outside to move alongside on the final lap but
his efforts to win his first career feature fell just inches short as Reihbrandt
took the checkered flag for the victory. J. Holtz charged from a twelfth
starting position to finish a strong third as Dale Prunty also advanced from the
eleventh starting spot to claim fourth. Kenealy finished fifth. In other Midwest modified action, Petersen won the dash and Prunty set fast time at 12.511 seconds. June
29, 2001 – Madison International Speedway
In
Midwest Modified action, Andy Anderson of Oregon moved from the outside of row
1, to the early lead, leading the field all the way to the checkered. The, 8
lap, race was slowed by a single caution, on lap 5, for a wreck in turn 4.
On
the restart Anderson held off the charge of Eldon Zacek of Saint Peters MO as he
showed the way to the checkered. At the stripe it was Anderson for the win
followed by Zacek, Dale Prunty of Allenton, Michael Grueneberg of Madison and
Dan Jung of Richfield. Zacek set the fast qualifying pace, with an 18.995 second
loop of the half mile. Anderson won the 6 lap heat race.
July
1, 2001– Slinger Super
Speedway
Dale
Prunty posted a convincing win in the 30 lap Midwest modified feature.
Mike
Graczkowski led the
first 16 laps of the event while Prunty worked his way from his fifth starting
spot to second place by lap ten. Prunty th In other Midwest modified action, Prunty won the dash and Lenny Gallenberg III turned a lap of 12.530 seconds to be the fastest qualifier for the division.
July 8, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Just as Schill has
been the man to beat in the late models lately, Jeff Holtz has been the dominant
driver in the Midwest Modified division this season as he used a last lap, last
turn pass to win his fifth 30 lap feature of the year. The tandem of Holtz and Petersen dispatched Miller from the fourth spot by lap eight and then dropped Kenealy to fifth on lap 14. Holtz and Petersen worked their way around Pawelski for second seven laps later and began to close in on Jung for the lead with nine laps to go. Holtz and Petersen were in Jung's tire tracks by lap 25 and Holtz began to work the outer groove to pull alongside Jung for the lead. The two drivers raced alongside each other over the final five laps and while exiting turn four on the final lap, Holtz was able to find enough traction in the outer groove to pull ahead and nip Jung at the stripe by inches for the win. Petersen finished directly behind the top two drivers and finished a close third while Brian Holtz and Miller rounded out the top five. In other Midwest
Modified action, Pawelski won the dash and Petersen set fast time at 12.705
seconds. July 15, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Larry Reihbrandt
drove away from the field to win his third Midwest Modified feature of the
season. Steve Lurvey held the early lead while Reihbrandt fell in line in second
ahead of Russ Grade and Mike Graczkowski. Reihbrandt took the lead on lap four
and pulled away to a sizeable advantage as the field bunched up behind him. Dan
Jung and Jeff Holtz worked their way through the field to take over third and
fourth by lap 17. Jung and Holtz were in second and third by lap 22 as Reihbrandt held a ¼ lap lead. Reihbrandt cruised to the win while Jung held off Holtz for second place by less than a car length. Dale Prunty rebounded from a slide through the infield early in the race to finish fourth and Dan Miller was fifth. In other Midwest Modified action, Holtz was the winner of the dash and Prunty set fast time at 12.550 seconds.
July 17, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Jeff Holtz won his sixth Midwest modified feature of the year as the event was completed despite limited visibility due to fog that had set in over the racetrack. Holtz took the lead from Ron Weyer following a restart on lap 30 of the 35 lap event. Weyer finished a close second while Dan Jung, Brian Holtz, and Steve Lurvey completed the top five..
July 22, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Brian Holtz found his way to victory lane for the third time this season by taking top honors in the 30 lap Midwest modified feature. The steadily improving Andy Evraets jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag while Holtz dropped into line in second ahead of Dan Jung, Ed Grober, and Dale Prunty. Evraets paced the first 11 laps before Holtz nipped him at the line as the caution appeared for a Gregg Pawelski spin in turn two. Holtz established himself firmly in the lead on the restart while Evraets raced hard for second with Jung, Jeff Holtz, and Prunty. Another caution flag appeared on lap 23 when Pawelski spun for a second time in turn four but Brian Holtz would not be denied as he stormed to his third win of the season. Evraets capped off his finest Slinger performance with a second place finish while Prunty, point leader Jeff Holtz, and Jung rounded out the top five finishers. To celebrate Five Star Stock Car Bodies owner Fran Prestay's distinction as the only modified driver to set fast time, win the dash, and the feature at Slinger, the company awarded $300 to Holtz for his win. The current Eldorado Clean Sweep award is set at $2100 for the July 29th event at Slinger. In other Midwest modified action, Jung won the dash and Kevin Kenealy was the fastest qualifier for the first time in his Slinger career with a lap of 12.538 seconds.
July
29, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway
By
the end of the first lap, Holtz had shot around Andy Evraets and Kevin Kenealy
and assumed the lead. Once out front Holtz began to check out on the field as
Larry Reihbrandt and Dale Prunty battled for second. Brian Holtz made repairs
from his first lap crash and rejoined the race between Jeff Holtz and the second
and third place cars as caution waved again when Chris Petersen began to leak
fluid on the track.
August
5, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway
Jeff Holtz
continued to set the Midwest modified division on fire as he won his eighth
30-lap feature of the year after nearly destroying his car in an accident during
the dash earlier in the evening. August 10, 2001 - Madison International Speedway In Midwest Modified action, Eldon Zacek of St. Peters MO claimed the win, in the 15 lap feature. Starting from the outside of row 3, Zacek began his trek to the checkered flag, as Ron Weyer of Jackson drove to the early lead. Michael Grueneberg of Madison motored under Weyer, claiming the point, on lap 4. As Grueneberg claimed the point, Paul Treuthardt of Monroe and Andy Anderson of Oregon powered under Weyer, for 2nd and 3rd. Zacek claimed 4th, on lap 6, closing with Anderson in the battle for 3rd. Anderson made his way under Treuthardt, for 2nd, on lap 9, as Treuthardt developed problems, pulling from the race. Zacek motored past Anderson, for 2nd, on lap 11, closing with Grueneberg. Moving to the inside on lap 14, Zacek claimed the point on lap 15. As they streaked past the checkered flag it was Zacek for the win, followed by Anderson, Dale Prunty of Allenton, Dan Jung of Richfield and Grueneberg. Prunty set the fast pace in qualifying, with an 18.960 second drive around the half mile. August 12, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Jeff Holtz spoiled Chris Petersen's bid for a first career win and scored his division-leading ninth Midwest modified 30-lap feature victory of the year. Brian Holtz led the early laps of the event as Petersen and Dan Miller lined up to take the second and third spots ahead of Mike Graczkowski and Kevin Kenealy. Graczkowski slowed suddenly while exiting turn two on lap eight and the chain reaction effect among the drivers behind him resulted in him spinning to the infield and collecting Gregg Pawelski to bring out the caution flag. On the restart, the car of Dan Jung developed some sort of leak and the lost fluid caused him to spin in turn four to slow down the field again with Bryan Holtz still leading. As racing resumed, Petersen was able to gain the advantage on the inside over Holtz to take command of the event on lap ten. While Petersen held the lead, Jeff Holtz began his march to the front as he moved from deep in the field to claim third place by lap 20. Jeff passed his brother, Brian, for second on lap 21 while Petersen enjoyed a sizeable lead and appeared headed for his first career feature victory. That scenario changed rapidly on lap 22 when Brian Holtz developed mechanical problems and pulled to the infield while the caution flag appeared for fluid on the track that leaked from Brian's disabled car. Petersen lined up for the restart as the leader and had the difficult task of fending off both Jeff Holtz and Dale Prunty for the final eight laps. Petersen appeared up to the task but was unable to keep his car in the inner groove and allowed Holtz to duck underneath to take the lead on lap 25. Prunty also took advantage of the opening on the inside and claimed the second spot while Holtz raced to his ninth feature win of the season. Prunty settled for second place while Petersen's strong run netted him a third place finish. Lenny Gallenberg III and Miller completed the top five finishers. In other Midwest modified action, Kenealy won the dash while Prunty set fast time at 12.468 seconds. August 19, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Dale Prunty won the Midwest modified 30-lap feature and gained ground on point's leader Jeff Holtz in the chase for the track championship. Lenny Gallenberg III
and Mike Graczkowski led the field to the green flag and raced side-by-side for
the opening laps with Ed Grober, Dan Miller,
As the tightly bunched field raced by, the cars of Jeff Holtz, Kevin Kenealy, Russ Grade, and Andy Evraets became collected in the incident. Holtz's car ended up going over Graczkowski's stalled machine and received extensive damage effectively ending the night for the point's leader and winner of nine previous features this season. Gallenberg led on the restart over Grober, Jung, and Miller while Prunty held down the fifth position. Prunty moved into third place two laps later and then passed Grober for second on lap seven. Prunty dogged Gallenberg for the lead for three laps before taking over the top spot on lap 10. A final caution on lap 22 for an incident involving Evraets in turn one tightened the field for the final eight laps of the race. Prunty was up to the task however, and pulled away to a convincing win while Gallenberg held off Grover for second. Chris Petersen finished fourth as Jung crossed the finish line in fifth. In other Midwest modified action, Jung won the dash while Steve Lurvey set fast time with a lap of 12.489 seconds.
August 26, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Dale Prunty
became the third member of the Prunty family to find Jung survived a scare at the start when pole-sitter Russ Grade got loose off the second turn and made contact with Jung down the backstretch on the opening lap. Jung turned sideways momentarily and bounced off the car of Chris Petersen as all drivers kept their cars from spinning while Andy Evraets took the lead. Jung recovered to grab second place ahead of Petersen as Grade fell into a battle for fourth with Ed Grober. Jung worked his way around Evraets for the lead on lap 12 as Petersen followed closely behind. Prunty raced into the top five by the next lap but became trapped behind Grober and Grade who were fighting it out for fourth place. Grade lost control on lap 15 and spun in turn two and as his car climbed the banking, Larry Reihbrandt was forced to take evasive action by heading into the pit entrance. Jung led on the restart and Evraets fell into line in second as Prunty used the inside groove to pull alongside Petersen for third. Prunty completed the pass for third and then took second on lap 21. Prunty quickly closed in on Jung who had pulled ahead to a five car length lead. Prunty took to the outer portion of the speedway and was able to pull up next to Jung at the white flag. Jung held tough on the inside and both drivers raced door to door down the backstretch. As they rounded the final turn, Prunty was able to gain momentum on the exit of the corner and edged ahead by inches over Jung at the checkered flag. Evraets completed another strong run with a third place finish while Petersen and point leader Jeff Holtz rounded out the top five. In other Midwest modified action, Chris Petersen won the dash while Prunty set fast time at 12.409 seconds. September 2, 2001 - Slinger Super Speedway Two-time track
champion Dennis Prunty guest drove the car normally driven by Ron Weyer and
edged his brother Dale Prunty to win the 30-lap Midwest modified feature. Dennis started from the pole position and quickly jumped out to a sizeable lead while Dale, who started in eighth, began to move through the field. With Dennis comfortably out front, Larry Reihbrandt, Steve Lurvey, and Dan Jung all fought it out for positions behind the leader. By the race's halfway mark, Lurvey and Dale had raced to the second and third spots while Jung and Reihbrandt were fourth and fifth. Following a caution period for a spin on lap 24, Dale was able to close in on Dennis. Dale pulled to the outside of Dennis on lap 27 and momentarily took the lead just before the caution appeared again on lap 28 when Jeff Holtz spun after racing with Jung. Both Prunty brothers were ready for the green-white-checkered restart and they raced door to door for the win. Dale used the outer groove to inch ahead entering turn three on the final lap but Dennis had better traction on the inside groove exiting turn four and beat Dale to the stripe by less than a car length. Lurvey finished third while Chris Petersen and Reihbrandt rounded out the top five. In other Midwest modified action, Dennis Prunty also won the dash while Dale Prunty set fast time at 12.470 seconds. PRUNTY'S SEASON ENDS ABRUPTLY... As many of you heard, Dale's motor was claimed by the Holtz brothers this past Sunday at Slinger. Dale naturally refused to give up his motor for $700. Therefore, he has been severely penalized and will not be finishing the season at Slinger. Although Dale is not allowed to race, but the #17 will still be tearing up the track. Be sure to watch Dennis jump into the #17 modified and also race his #42 Late Model for the final 2 weeks of the season. A special thanks to everyone for all their support, especially the 2001 sponsors!! You've all been great! It's been a very eventful year to say the least. Unfortunately, this is not the way it was suppose to end. October 5, 2001 - Oktoberfest @ Lacrosse Last race of the season....Friday, October 5th, 2001 - Oktoberfest at Lacrosse Fairgrounds Speedway
Dale ended the night with a second place finish in the Midwest Modified Feature,
but it wasn't easy. There was a lot of work to get done after the heat race.
The flex plate exploded shooting pieces through the roll cage, fuel line,
the bell housing and the body. The crew was able to scramble between
the races and got things back together. Dale lead the feature for the
majority of the race, but # 1 Steve Johannacek was able to out power the #17.
David Prunty in the #1 Late Model also had a great run at Lacrosse.
David qualified 3rd and finished 5th in the 50 lap feature.
