Dan Miller charged by Dale Prunty and went on to
take the win in the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature.
Dan Jung and Dan Prunty occupied the front row for the start and Jung led the
first two laps before Prunty got his car wound up on the outside to take the top
spot on lap three. The high side proved to be the fast way around the speedway
as Dale Prunty, Miller, Steve
Schulz, and Jeff Holtz all used it to advance forward during the middle stages
of the event. Dale Prunty caught Dan Prunty for the lead on lap nine and once
again used the outside to drive around and take command of the race. Miller
followed with a similar move to take second a few laps later to take second
place. Dan Prunty began to fade on the inside as both Schulz and Holtz also made
their way by and into third and fourth place respectively by lap 12. Once in
second place, Miller tracked down Dale Prunty and after several attempts on the
high side, moved to the low groove to pull alongside on lap 15. Miller and
Prunty battled side-by-side for many laps with Miller prevailing entering the
corners while Prunty made up the ground on the exits. Miller was finally able to
ease ahead in the closing laps and went on to take the checkered flag for the
win. Prunty settled for second and in the process, wrapped up his second
consecutive track championship. Schulz finished in third place, just ahead of
Holtz and Jason Feyereisen who rounded out the top five.
Schulz led flag-to-flag to capture the 30-lap Midwest Modified Race of Champions
for feature and fast dash winners on the season. Dale Prunty finished second and
Jason Feyereisen was third. Jeff Holtz and Dan Miller rounded out the top five.
Wes Biswell was the winner of the Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified dash
and Schulz set fast time for the second week in a row with a lap of 12.188
seconds.
September 5, 2004 -
Slinger Super Speedway - Jason
Feyereisen edged Dan Miller by less than a car-length to win the 25-lap Eldorado
Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature.
Russ Grade led the opening laps and opened up nearly a straightaway lead as Ron
Schmitt, Feyereisen, Wes Biswell, and Miller all raced alongside each other for
the remaining top five positions. With Grade comfortably in front, Feyereisen
made his way around Schmitt for second on lap 15 and Miller followed suite a lap
later to grab third place. Dale Prunty had worked his way into the fifth spot
but his evening ended early when he stalled with mechanical problems on lap 19
to draw a caution flag. The caution erased Grade’s advantage and Feyereisen was
ready on the restart and immediately began to put the pressure on for the lead.
Feyereisen took command of the event from Grade on lap 22 and Miller used the
outside to move into second place on lap 23 as Grade fell to third. Over the
final two laps, Miller closed the gap on Feyereisen and tried an outside lane
move on the final lap as the two raced to the checkered flag. Miller’s bid came
up just short as Feyereisen took the win in a photo finish at the stripe. Grade
wrapped up one of his best runs of the season to finish third while Schmitt and
Ken Wills rounded out the top five.
Feyereisen also claimed top honors in the fast dash and Steve Schulz circled the
track in 12.271 seconds to become the fastest qualifier for the evening.
August 29, 2004- Slinger Super Speedway -
Dale Prunty used the outside
grooved to power to another feature win in the 25
-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales
Midwest Modified main event.
Ron Schmitt
charged into the early lead with the rest of the field nipping at his heels and
held steady on the inside lane. Russ Grade was the first driver to challenge
Schmitt by trying the outside and he quickly became hung out to dry and faded to
fifth as Jeff Holtz, Steve Schulz, and Dan Miller all got by. Schulz made his
move to the outside on lap 18 but couldn’t make the move work and immediately
got back in line. This opened the door for Miller to take to the outside a lap
later and he attempted to squeeze alongside Schulz for second. Contact between
the two cars exiting the second turn sent Schul
z
hard into the turn three wall and Miller to the rear of the field as the caution
waved. Schmitt led Holtz on the restart with Prunty moving into third as a
result of the incident and as racing resumed, Holtz remained on the inside while
Prunty took his shot on the outside. Prunty was able to edge around Holtz and
began to pressure Schmitt for the lead when the final caution flag appeared on
lap 21 after Russ Grade and Jason Feyereisen tangled in turn two. Prunty again
took to the top side on the restart and charged around Schmitt for the lead on
lap 23. Prunty drove away for the final two laps and scored the win over Schmitt
who nailed down a respectable second place finish. Holtz took the checkered flag
in third and Miller came back through the field to finish fourth. Russ Moberly
rounded out the top five.
Wes Biswell won the fast dash and Dan Miller was the fastest qualifier with a
lap of 12.174 seconds.
August 22, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Dale Prunty cruised to
another win in the 25-lap Midwest Modified main event after many cars were
eliminated in an early race incident.
Prunty charged to the top spot by lap ten and held the lead over Wes Biswell,
Jason Feyereisen, Jeff Holtz, and Steve Schulz as they came u
p
on slower traffic. Bill Tandetzke, Brad Smith, and Joe Osterman were racing hard
for position just in front of the leaders and as they battled, the leaders
quickly closed. Prunty was able to pass the cars cleanly but when the racing
between the slower
cars eventually took up both racing grooves, Biswell and the others were forced
to get on the binders, resulting in a turn one accident that involved Biswell,
Feyereisen, Holtz, and Schulz. Biswell was the only one able to continue but the
damage to his car caused a severe tire rub and he left the speedway as Prunty
led over Russ Grade, David McCardle, Russ Moberly, and Roger Schmid. Prunty was
unchallenged from there and took the win over Grade and Moberly while McCardle
and Schmid rounded out the top five.
Earlier, Biswell won the fast dash and Prunty was the fastest qualifier at
12.193 seconds.

RECAP 8-21-04 - Thirty-seven Open Wheel Modifieds, representing 8 different
states showed up to participate in the North vs. South Shootout. The North was
comprised of cars from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, the
South from Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky.
Time
trials produced a new track record as Rodney Scott of Newcastle, Indiana
established the new mark at 10.83 seconds. The top 18 cars and two provisionals
advanced to the Main and 14 additional cars raced in the last chance race with 4
advancing. Twenty-Four cars started the feature, the most ever for one class at
Riverview Speedway.
R.J.
Norton Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana took the checkered flag during the feature
and led the entire race pole-to-pole. Norton Jr.'s effort helped to lead the way
for the North squad to take home the Jerry Shrum Memorial Trophy for the side
with the most top 10 finishers. The North squad held 9 of the top 10 places to
secure the cup. The only South member to crack the top 10 was Steve Mullinax of
Crossville who finished 9th. The Jerry Shrum Memorial trophy will travel north
with USA Modifieds to their headquarters in Indianapolis until next years
shootout.
The
shootout brought out the biggest crowd of the year, to date. Many of the
preliminary races were just as exciting as the main event. Jonathan Foster of
Hartsville, who leads the Nas-Kart point series finally won his 1st career
feature at Riverview. Foster held off William Boyd of Lebanon and Tom Lowe of

Dale Prunty charged from the
back of the field and executed a late race pass of Jeff Holtz to drive to
victory in the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature.
Ron Schmitt led the opening laps as a tightly bunched field of cars that
included Holtz, Roger Schmid, Russ
Moberly,
and Dan Miller raced intensely for track position behind the leader. Schmid
momentarily broke loose in turn four on lap three and was slightly tagged by
cars behind him, sending him spinning on the frontstretch. As the rest of the
field tried to avoid the incident, Dan Miller and Steve Schulz were turned into
the wall and the race was slowed under the caution flag.
Holtz was able to get a run on Schmitt on the restart and immediately went to
the outside to challenge for the lead. Holtz made the outside work on lap five
and took command of the race while further back, Wes Biswell, Jason Feyereisen
,
and Prunty were working their way toward the front. As Holtz led comfortably,
Schmitt began to fade on the inside and fell back to fifth by the halfway mark
as Biswell, Feyereisen, and Prunty advanced to the second through fourth spots
respectively. Prunty was really hooked up in the later stages of the race and he
quickly dispatched Biswell for second and began to gain ground on Holtz for the
lead. With five laps to go, Prunty caught Holtz and took to the outside to
attempt a pass. Holtz held tough on the inside for a few laps but eventually was
no match for Prunty who took the lead with three laps to go. It was smooth
sailing from there for Prunty and he scored the win over Holtz and Biswell.
Feyereisen finished fourth and Schmitt was fifth.
Earlier in the evening, Holtz was victorious in the Eldorado Trailer Sales
Midwest Modified dash and Prunty set fast time at 12.235 seconds.
August 8, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Dan Miller drove off to
victory in the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature, taking
the checkered flag nearly a half lap ahead of the field.
Miller started fifth and charged by Roger Schmid and Jason Feyereisen to take
second place by lap two as Steven Schulz led. Schulz paced the event for seven
laps before Miller drove around to take the point on lap eight. As Miller and
Schulz raced for the lead, the best battle on the speedway was between Jeff
Holtz, Dale Prunty, Wes Biswell, and Feyereisen as they all raced hard for
third. Using the outside lane, Prunty and Biswell were able to pass Holtz on lap
15 as Miller began to stretch out his advantage over Schulz. The gap continued
to grow as the handling went away on Schulz’s car and over the final five laps,
Prunty, Biswell, and Holtz closed in and pressured him for second. With Miller
comfortably in front, Prunty and Biswell upended Schulz for second on lap 21 and
Holtz followed soon thereafter, dropping Schulz to fifth. Miller was not to be
denied and he took the convincing win nearly a half lap ahead of Prunty and
Biswell. Holtz finished fourth and Schulz hung on to finish fifth.
Earlier in the evening, Schulz won the fast dash and Miller turned in another
impressive qualifying lap at 12.212 seconds to nail down fast time honors.
August 1, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Dale
Prunty won the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified 25-lap main event
to claim his second feature victory of the season.
Russ Moberly led the beginning laps over Jason Feyereisen and Steve Schulz who
raced just ahead of Prunty, Dan Miller, and Wes Biswell.
Biswell was
driving the car normally piloted by Ken Wills after he experienced problems with
his own car earlier in the evening. The caution flag flew early when Ron Schmitt
spun and hit the turn three wall on lap four. As racing resumed, Moberly held
the lead but Prunty, Miller, and Biswell were working the outside lane and
heading to the front.
Prunty
used the outside groove to take second from Feyereisen and then charged by
Moberly and into the lead on lap eight. Miller followed Prunty, but his charge
was derailed on lap 11 when he tangled with Moberly and both cars spun down the
backstretch. Miller’s misfortune placed Biswell into second place and he tried
to run down Prunty for the lead. Prunty and Biswell were well ahead of
Feyereisen, who held third place and Schulz in fourth. Prunty held off any
challenge Biswell could mount and raced to his second feature win of the season.
Feyereisen finished a distant third and Schulz was fourth. Ron Schmitt finished
in fifth place. Biswell won the fast dash and Prunty set fast time at 12.330
seconds.
July
25, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway - Ron
Schmitt claimed his first feature victory of the season in the 25-lap Eldorado
Trailer Sales Midwest modified feature.
Schmitt took the green flag from the outside of the first row and followed early
leader Russ Moberly for six laps before taking command of the event with an
inside pass on lap seven. As Schmitt held the lead, Wes Biswell, Dale Prunty,
and Ken Wills were using the outside lane to move through the pack and by lap
nine Prunty took over second place from Moberly. Prunty made a challenge for the
lead by ducking to the inside of Schmitt on lap nine, but the move proved costly
as he spun between turns one and two.
One lap
later, Moberly spun after racing hard with Biswell for second and the caution
flag appeared with Schmitt leading Biswell, Jason Feyereisen, Wills, and Dan
Miller. Once racing resumed, Schmitt maintained the top spot over Biswell,
Feyereisen, and Wills while Miller battled with Jeff Holtz for fifth. The
intense racing between the two contributed to the next caution flag as Miller
spun on the backstretch on lap 21. The final nine laps were run under green and
Schmitt was up to the challenge as he held off Biswell for the win. Wills made a
late race charge to grab third from Fereyeisen at the checkered. Steve Schulz
was fifth.
July
18, 2004- Slinger Super Speedway - Dale
Prunty continued his winning ways with a victory in the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer
Sales Midwest Modified feature.
Jason Feyereisen immediately grabbed the lead at the start over Russ Grade and
Ken Wills. Prunty, who started fifth quickly went to work driving towards the
front, taking third place on lap five and then second on lap seven. Near the
half way mark, Prunty caught Feyereisen while Wills held down third place just
ahead of Dan Miller and Grade. Prunty made his move around Feyereisen to take
the lead just before lap 20 and was never headed from there, driving to the
victory. Feyereisen finished second and Wills crossed the finish line in third.
Miller finished in fourth place and Grade was fifth.
July
13, 2004- Slinger Super Speedway -
Slinger Nationals - Dale raced only his 2nd time
in the #17 Late Model for the Nationals. The Modifieds did not race for
this event. Dale qualified 44th out of 51 cars and finished 2nd in the
semi-feature battling John Zimmerman for the lead most of the event.
July
11, 2004- Slinger Super Speedway - Wes
Biswell won the Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature that was
shortened to 21 laps due to a rain shower that would eventually wash out the
remaining races.
Steve Schulz jumped into the lead at the start over Ken Wills and Russ Moberly.
Schulz led the opening laps as Biswell sliced through the field, taking third
place from Moberly on lap eight. By lap 15, Biswell had caught and passed Wills
for second while Schulz continued to lead. Biswell ran down Schulz and took the
lead just before Dale Prunty slowed on lap 18 and brought out the caution flag.
Biswell kept his lead as racing resumed for two more laps before the skies
opened up and the race was halted. Schulz finished second followed by Wills,
Jeff Holtz, and Ron Schmitt.
Earlier in the evening, Schulz won a wild modified dash and Dan Miller was the
fastest qualifier at 12.302 seconds.
July
4, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Jeff Holtz held off Dale Prunty and Dan
Miller to win the 30-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature.
Holtz raced with Russ Moberly for the lead at the start while Miller and Prunty
battled for position with Ron Schmitt and Wes Biswell. Holtz used the inside
lane to gain the advantage while Moberly began to fade slightly on the outside
as Miller went by for second on lap ten and Prunty also passed Moberly for third
by lap 15. Holtz held onto a sizeable lead during the middle stages and Miller
and Prunty began to stage their own battle for second while Prunty won on lap
24. Holtz drove a near perfect race and drove to the win over Prunty and Miller
while Biswell and Ron Schmitt rounded out the top five.
Holtz also visited victory lane following the fast dash and Miller was the
fastest qualifier at 12.195 seconds.
June 30, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Wes Biswell scored the win in
the 25-lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Midwest Modified feature by holding off Dale
Prunty and Jason Feyereisen for the win.
Biswell jumped out to the lead at the start over Feyereisen and Jeff Holtz as
the caution quickly flew on lap three when Dan Miller and Steve Schulz tangled
on the frontstretch that resulted in Schulz scraping along the turn one wall.
The yellow reappeared a lap after the restart when Russ Moberly made contact
with the turn three wall and the pace was slowed again with Biswell still
leading over Feyereisen and Prunty, who along with Ron Schmitt and Roger Schmid
moved into the top five after Holtz dropped out with mechanical problems.
Biswell continued to lead as racing resumed and Prunty quickly challenged
Feyereisen for second. After racing hard for many laps, Prunty was able to take
the position on lap 15 while Biswell maintained a considerable advantage out
front. Over the final half of the race, Prunty was able to close to Biswell’s
bumper and made several attempts to get by on the inside, but each time, Biswell
was strong enough to hold him off. At the finish, Biswell took the win ahead of
Prunty and Feyereisen while Ron Schmitt and Roger Schmid capped off their best
runs of the season by finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Earlier, Feyereisen won the fast dash and Prunty led all qualifiers at 12.309
seconds.
June 27, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Rained out, rescheduled for Wednesday, June 30th.
June 20, 2004 - Slinger Super Speedway -
Jeff
Holtz led the opening laps over Ron Schmitt, Russ Grade, and Steve Schulz while Schumacher and Prunty
looked to advance forward after starting far back in the field. Schulz and Grade
mad
e
contact in turn two and slid into the infield on lap two while battling for
third. The incident between Schulz and Grade caused those behind them to
slow down and further back Roger Schmid made hard contact
with Eddie Bentfield, resulting in the appearance of the caution flag. Holtz
maintained his lead on the restart while Schumacher and Prunty
made the high lane work, moving into fourth and fifth by lap 10. Seven laps
later, the two had
worked their way into third and fourth and by lap 22, Schumacher was in second
place with Prunty following in third. Schumacher aggressively
worked the outside, sliding his car in the corners in almost dirt track-like
fashion, and took the lead from Holtz on lap 26. Schumacher drove away to the win from there
while Holtz finished second and Prunty was third. Ron Schmitt and Wes Biswell
completed the top five.
Prunty won the dash and also set fast time at 12.154 seconds which set him up
for a possible clean sweep, which fell just short when he finished third in the
feature.
