September 15-17, 2005;
Mansfield Ohio Speedway - Dale
qualified 16th out of 75 cars. Only the top 2 were locked in from
qualifying. The rest need to race in from the qualifying races.
The top 2 from each race advance to the show. Dale started his heat race on
the outside of the front row, but had a loose race car for the first few
laps of the 15 lap event. Dale finished 4th and attempt to race in
through the B-Main, but fell short with a 7th place finish. Although
he didn't make the race, he was very excited with his qualifying efforts
against 75 considering this was his first time at this track.
September 11, 2005;
Slinger Speedway - Ron
Schmitt ran off with the victory in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature
after surviving a green-white-checkered finish and crossing the stripe ahead
of Steve Huelsbeck and Wes Biswell.
Eddie Bentfield and Bill Tandetzke led the field to the green and Tandetzke
used the outer groove to take the lead at the completion of lap one.
Schmitt, who started fourth, also took to the outside and raced into second
place on lap two. A lap later, Schmitt blasted his way by Tandetzke and into
the lead while farther back, Biswell and Huelsbeck began to work their way
forward. Huelsbeck and Biswell worked their way through the field and
occupied the second and third places respectively by lap 15 as Schmitt
continued to lead. Tandetzke held down the fourth spot and was fending off
Dale Prunty for the position as the first caution flag flew on lap 17 when
Brad Smith spun his car on the frontstretch. Schmitt continued to show the
way on the restart as Prunty and Jason Feyereisen continued to work on
Tandetzke for the fourth spot. The final caution flag flew with two laps to
go as Terry Helmbrecht and Bentfield tangled in turn three to set up the
green-white-checkered finish. Schmitt held his own over the final two laps
and raced to the win over Huelsbeck and Biswell as both Feyereisen and
Prunty were able to pass Tandetzke over the final laps to finish fourth and
fifth respectively. Prunty’s fifth place finish wrapped up the 2005 Slinger
Track Championship in the Midwest Modified division.
Huelsbeck won the fast dash earlier in the evening and Prunty led qualifying
with a lap of 12.293 seconds.
September 4, 2005; Slinger
Speedway - Steve Schulz turned
back all challenges to win the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature, taking the
win over Ron Schmitt and Dale Prunty.
The race got off to a rocky start as several cars including Eddie Bentfield,
Joe Houpt and Dale Prunty made contact at the drop of the green, sending
them spinning to the infield. The second attempt at starting the race was
much better as Schulz charged into the lead over Ron Schmitt and Jason
Feyereisen. Wes Biswell advanced forward in the early laps, taking over
third place by lap five as Schulz continued to lead. David McCardle entered
the top five and began to race with Feyereisen for position by lap 13 and
two laps later, both drivers tangled in turn one to produce a caution flag
with Schulz leading Schmitt and Biswell. Schulz was never headed over the
final laps and raced to the win while Schmitt finished in second place. Dale
Prunty rebounded from his earlier misfortunes and he was able to snag third
place from Biswell at the finish. Steve Huelsbeck completed the top five.
Schulz also was victorious in the fast dash and Feyereisen was the fastest
qualifier after turning in a lap in 12.347 seconds.
August 28, 2005; Slinger
Speedway -
Wes Biswell led flag to flag en route to the
victory in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature but the win was anything but
easy as he had to hold off a hard charging Dale Prunty at the stripe.
Biswell grabbed the lead immediately at the start of the event and began to
distance himself from the field as Steve Huelsbeck, Ron Schmitt, Steve
Schulz, and Prunty all raced in two-by-two formation for second with Schmitt
and Schulz working the outside groove and Huelsbeck and Prunty taking to the
inside. The four car battle over second straightened itself out when the
drivers encountered lapped traffic and Prunty came out on top of the
scramble, taking over second place with Huelsbeck squeezing in for third
place ahead of Schmitt and Schulz. As Prunty began to track down Biswell for
the lead, Schulz went to the outside and rim-rode his way around to pull
alongside Schmitt for second as Huelsbeck remained in the battle as well.
Schulz’s drive toward the front stalled on lap 19, however, as he slid high
in turn four allowing Huelsbeck and Schmitt to go by and bringing Jason
Feyereisen into the top five. Over the final five laps, Prunty closed the
gap between himself and Biswell for the lead, pulling to Biswell’s rear
bumper at the white flag. Prunty made a last attempt for the win on the
outside in turn four but Biswell was too strong off the corner and claimed
the win with Prunty close behind in second. Huelsbeck finished in third
place while Feyereisen and Schmitt rounded out the top five.
Huelsbeck took top honors in the Midwest Modified fast dash and Steve
Schultz set fast time with a lap of 12.279 seconds.
August 21, 2005; Slinger
Speedway -
Steven Schulz left the field in his
mirrors as he cruised to victory in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature.
Schulz started from the outside of the front row and out-gunned Eddie
Bentfield to take command of the race at the start. Ron Schmitt kept Schulz
honest throughout most of the event as he st ayed
in Schulz’s tracks while Wes Biswell raced with Steve Huelsbeck and Jason
Feyereisen for third. The top five remained static and Schulz saw his lead
grow on lap 16 when Schmitt slid wide in turn two. Schulz was unchallenged
on his way to the checkered flag and scored a comfortable win over Schmitt
and Biswell. Huelsbeck and Feyereisen rounded out the top five.
Schmitt was also the winner of the fast dash and Dale Prunty paced
qualifying, turning in a lap of 12.293 seconds.
August 14, 2005; Slinger
Speedway -
Russ Grade left the field in his mirrors as he
raced to the win in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature.
Grade started the event from the pole position and led at the outset as
Steve Huelsbeck moved forward to challenge Eddie Bentfield for second.
Huelsbeck completed the pass a few laps later as Grade continued to lead.
Two of the division’s hotshoes experienced trouble almost simultaneously as
fast qualifier Jason Feyereisen dropped off the pace with mechanical
problems and Dale Prunty spun around in turn four after contact with another
car as the field remained under the green. Steve Schulz, Wes Biswell, and
Ron Schmitt all made their way by Bentfield to advance into the top five
just before the caution flew on lap eight when Bentfield looped around in
turn four. Grade led on the restart over Huelsbeck and Schulz as Biswell
battled Schmitt over the fourth spot. Schulz jumped to the outside lane and
challenged Huelsbeck for second and their tussle allowed Grade to streak
ahead. Huelsbeck and Schulz remained side by side for several laps as Grade
continued to extend his lead while Biswell and Schmitt also raced alongside
each other. Relatively unchallenged throughout the closing laps, Grade raced
to the victory while Huelsbeck turned back Schulz for second. Schmitt nipped
Biswell at the finish to grab fourth place, leaving Biswell to settle for
fifth.
Huelsbeck took top honors in the Midwest Modified fast dash and Jason
Feyereisen blistered qualifying with a lap of 12.296 seconds.
August 7, 2005; Slinger
Speedway - Dale Prunty charged
to the win in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature, taking the checkered flag
about four car lengths ahead of Steven Schulz.
Russ Moberly and Eddie Bentfield led the field to the green and Moberly used
the inside to gain the top spot while Russ Grade slipped into second,
dropping Bentfield to third. Moberly led the opening lap as Grade made the
move to the inside in a bid for the lead and the ensuing contact resulted in
Moberly spinning and Grade ending up parked on top of Moberly’s machine
while the caution flag waved. Bentfield inherited the lead for the restart
and he led the second lap before once again, the caution flew as David
McCardle and Jason Feyereisen tangled in turn one, leaving McCardle spun
around at the inside of the track.

Bentfield maintained his lead on the restart over Prunty and Schulz while
Steve Huelsbeck and Ron Schmitt followed. Prunty worked over Bentfield for
the lead on lap six and Schulz followed a lap later to claim second.
Huelsbeck and Schmitt also were able to pass Bentfield a few laps later as
Schulz looked to the inside and outside for a way around Prunty for the
lead. Bentfield held on to the fifth spot until lap 22 when he spun in turn
four, moving Feyereisen and Wes Biswell into a battle for the spot. Prunty
stayed smooth over the closing laps and held off Schulz for the win.
Huelsbeck finished in third place and Schmitt crossed the stripe in fourth
place. The battle between Feyereisen and Biswell boiled over on the final
corner and they tangled on the front stretch, allowing Bill Tandetzke to
finish fifth.
Earlier in the evening, Russ Grade won the fast dash and Steven Schulz set
fast time after turning in a qualifying lap of 12.319 seconds.
July 31, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Steve Schulz took the lead early and then held
off a hard charging Jason Feyereisen to win the 25-lap Midwest Modified
feature.
Ron Schmitt and Schulz led the field to the green flag and Schulz used the
outside lane to gain the top spot upon the completion of lap two. Schmitt
stuck with the bottom while Feyereisen also looked to the top as they
battled for second with Schulz remaining out front. Dale Prunty and Steve
Huelsbeck followed close behind the lead trio as the top five ran nose to
tail. A spin by David McCardle in turn three on lap eight produced the first
and only caution flag of the race with Schulz leading Feyereisen, Schmitt,
and Prunty.
Schulz and Feyereisen were ready for the restart and they got a slight jump
as racing resumed, pulling away from Schmitt, Prunty, and Huelsbeck. By lap
15, Schulz still led Feyereisen who looked both high and low for way around
while Prunty tracked them down, setting up a three-car battle for the lead.
As the top three fought for position, Schmitt and Huelsbeck also staged a
tussle for the fourth spot. Schulz hit his marks over the final laps and was
able to hold off Feyereisen for the win by about a car-length. Prunty
finished a close third while Schmitt edged Huelsbeck at the stripe to finish
fourth, leaving Huelsbeck to settle for fifth.
Schmitt was the winner of the fast dash and Feyereisen was the fastest
qualifier of the evening, turning in a lap of 12.241 seconds.
July 24, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Steve Huelsbeck led flag-to-flag en route to
the victory in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature.
Huelsbeck started from the pole and used the inside lane to take the lead,
bringing Wes Biswell and Ron Schmitt with him while outside front row
starter fell back into a battle with Russ Moberly and Jason Feyeresien over
the fourth position. With everyone trying to get to the bottom lane, some
bumper tag occurred throughout the field and in the ensuing traffic jam,
Moberly and Eddie Bentfield spun in turn four on lap two to draw a caution
flag.
Huelsebeck led Biswell and Schmitt on the restart while Feyereisen and Dale
Prunty held down the fourth and fifth spots respectively. Huelsebeck and
Biswell jumped out ahead as the green reappeared while Feyereisen and Prunty
pressured Schmitt for third. Contact between the three on lap 19 slowed them
down slightly and allowed Huelsbeck and Biswell to pull away. Huelsbeck
drove the final laps flawlessly and drove to the checkered flag for the win
while Biswell finished a close second. Feyereisen was able to get around
Schmitt in the closing laps and crossed the stripe in third place while
Schmitt and Prunty rounded out the top five.
Earlier in the night, Biswell won the fast dash and Feyereisen was the
fastest qualifier at 12.283 seconds.
July 17, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Steve Schulz took the lead early on in the Midwest Modified 25-lap feature
and held off charges by Dale Prunty and Ron Schmitt to score the win.
Schulz took the green flag from the outside of the front row and used the
outside groove to battle Joe Houpt for the top spot during the opening two
laps. Schulz eventually powered his way into the lead while Wes Biswell and
Dale Prunty also took to the high side to work their way around Houpt and
into second and third place respectively. Schulz continued to lead over
Biswell and Prunty on lap ten while Schmitt and Jason Feyereisen entered the
top five. Prunty was able to maneuver his way by Biswell for second place
and began to track down Schulz as the field slowed under the caution flag
for a spin by David McCardle in turn four. Schulz led Prunty on the restart
and the top two ran nose to tail while Schmitt began to work on Biswell for
third. McCardle and Roger Schmid tangled in turn four on lap 18 and once
again the yellow flag appeared. As was the case a few laps earlier, Schulz
was able to get a small jump on Prunty as the green reappeared. Over the
closing laps, Prunty could close to Schulz’s bumper but was unable to mount
a serious challenge as Schulz drove to the victory. Prunty settled for
second while Schmitt came out on top of a wild scramble for third place at
the checkered flag, edging Biswell and Feyereisen.
Earlier in the evening, Schulz won the fast dash and Feyereisen was the
fastest qualifier at 12.340 seconds.
July 10, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
The win was his second in three weeks at the
high-banked .25-mile oval. Two-time defending track champion Dale Prunty
took the lead on lap 10 and cruised to victory in the 25-lap Midwest
Modified feature. In the Midwest Modified feature, Russ Grade
led the field with Wes Biswell, Prunty and Steven Schulz in tow. Prunty
wasted no time in working to the front, taking the runner-up position from
Biswell on lap five before working around Grade five laps later.
Once out front, Prunty motored to the checkered ahead of Grade, Biswell,
fast qualifier Jason Feyereisen and Schulz. With his win, Prunty took over
the divisions championship point lead.
July 4, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
The Midwest Modified feature provided the most
excitement on the evening and when it was over, Ron Schmitt edged Dale
Prunty to win the 25-lap event.
Schmitt took the lead at the drop of the green flag over Russ Moberly and
David McCardle while Steve Huelsbeck, Steven Schulz, and Prunty followed.
Roger Schmid spun on lap two and was able to continue as the race remained
under green. As Schmid came back up to speed he found himself directly in
front of the lead battle between Schmitt and Prunty. The leaders were unable
to pass the lapped car, which tightly bunched the field, resulting in some
close contact racing, but everyone kept their cars under control. Debris on
the speedway on lap 21 brought out the caution flag to unwind the field for
the single file restart. As the race resumed, Prunty went to work on getting
around Schmitt for the lead. With two laps remaining, the leaders made
slight contact but once again, they straightened out their cars with Schmitt
choosing the low groove and Prunty racing up top. On the final lap the two
ran side by side with Prunty making a final run toward the checkered flag.
Prunty’s run came up short as Schmitt powered off the final turn to take the
victory by less than a car length. Schulz finished in third place ahead of
Huelsbeck and Wes Biswell.
Huelsbeck won the Midwest Modified fast dash and Jason Feyereisen circled
the speedway in 12.099 seconds which netted him fast time on the night.
June 26, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Wes Biswell led wire to wire and drove to the
win in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature.
Biswell started on the pole and quickly moved out front as Ron Schmitt,
Steve Schulz, and David McCardle disputed positions behind him. Some very
hard racing between them shook up the standings and produced some tense
moments but when all was settled by lap 10, Biswell led Schulz, Dale Prunty,
Schmitt, and Jason Feyereisen. Feyereisen worked his way forward into a
battle with Schulz for second place by lap 20 as Biswell continued to lead.
Schulz and Feyereisen tangled together in turn one two laps later, resulting
in a caution flag and sending both to the rear of the field for the restart.
That moved Prunty into second behind Biswell while Schmitt held down third
place in front of Steve Huelsbeck and Roger Schmid as racing resumed. Prunty
did all he could to catch Biswell, looking both high and low but he could
not make a challenge as Biswell raced to the win. Prunty settled for second
place while Huelsbeck finished in third. Schmitt crossed the stripe in
fourth place while Russ Grade rounded out the top five.
Biswell also won the fast dash and Prunty turned in an extremely fast
qualifying lap of 12.181 seconds.
June 19, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Russ Grade took advantage of a late race bobble
by Joe Houpt and drove to his first feature victory of the season in the
25-lap Midwest Modified main event.
Houpt outgunned Roger Schmid at the drop of the green flag to claim the lead
while Grade and Ron Schmitt filled the gap on the inside lane to shuffle
Schmid back to fourth in the early laps. Schmid spun on lap eight while
running fourth but the race remained under green with Houpt leading Grade,
Schmitt, Jason Feyereisen, and Steve Schulz. The top five ran nose-to-tail
as the lead pack encountered lapped cars with Houpt remaining in command of
the event, in search of his first career Slinger feature victory. However,
the handling on Houpt’s car began to fade in the waning laps and he began to
kick loose exiting the corners, opening up the inside for Grade to make a
bid for the lead. With two laps to go, Grade made his move and muscled his
way around Houpt to take the top spot. With Houpt caught on the outside,
Schmitt and Feyereisen were also able to get by as the white flag was
displayed. Grade held his line and drove to the win over Schmitt and
Feyereisen while Houpt had to settle for a fourth place finish, just ahead
of Schulz who crossed the stripe in fifth.
Earlier in the evening, Schmitt captured the victory in the fast dash and
Feyereisen turned in a qualifying lap of 12.302 seconds and was the
evening’s fastest qualifier.
June 12, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Dale Prunty took top honors in the 25-lap
Midwest Modified feature, holding off Steve Huelsbeck at the finish.
Roger Schmid started on the pole and led the beginning laps as fellow
front-row starter Eddie Bentfield raced alongside. Behind them, Huelsbeck,
Prunty, Ron Schmitt, and Dave McCardle scrambled for track position as the
field circled the speedway in a
tightly
bunched group. Huelsbeck and Prunty worked their way to the outside and
propelled themselves by Schmid and Bentfield on lap four to take the top two
spots. Huelsbeck continued to lead with Prunty in his tire tracks while
Schmitt and McCardle were joined by Wes Biswell in the fight for third.
Prunty remained in the high groove and eventually was able to squeeze by to
take command of the event on lap 13. Once out front, Prunty was never headed
as he drove to the win over Huelsbeck and Schmitt. Biswell won a hard fought
battle with McCardle to finish fourth, leaving McCardle to settle for
a fifth place finish.
Huelsbeck was the winner of the Midwest Modified fast dash and Jason
Feyereisen set fast time with a lap of 12.272 seconds.
June 5, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Ron Schmitt led flag to flag to take top honors
in the 25-lap Midwest Modified feature, holding off Dale Prunty and Steve
Schulz at the finish.
The event got off to a rocky start as fast qualifier Jason Feyereisen got
loose in turn four and smacked the frontstretch wall on the first lap with
Schmitt leading over Russ Grade and Steve Huelsbeck. On the restart, Schmitt
once again raced out front while the cars behind him ran side by side in a
pack. Contact between them, momentarily scattered the cars and strung out
the field with Schmitt leading Grade, Huelsbeck, Wes Biswell, Dale Prunty,
and David McCardle. Biswell and McCardle tangled on lap 16 to bring out the
only caution of the race with Schmitt continuing to lead. As racing resumed,
Schmitt held a steady lead while Prunty and Steve Schulz sliced their way
through the field and into second and third place respectively. Schmitt
drove to the victory while Prunty and Schulz finished second and third.
Huelsbeck was fourth and Grade was fifth.
Steve Huelsbeck won the fast dash and Jason Feyereisen was the fastest
qualifier after touring the speedway in 12.243 seconds.
May 29, 2005; Slinger
Speedway -
Jason Feyereisen took the lead from Hartland’s
Russ Grade on lap 10 and held off a determined Dale Prunty, of Allenton, to
capture the Midwest Modified feature. Fast qualifier Steve Schulz, of
Waukesha, settled for third in the race that ran caution free. Grade and
Sussex driver Wes Biswell rounded out the top five.
May 22, 2005; Slinger
Speedway - Steve Huelsbeck
walked away from the field to take home a convincing win in the 25-lap
Midwest Modified feature.
Huelsbeck immediately used the outside groove to take the lead at the start
while Russ Moberly, Ron Schmitt, and Wes Biswell battled for second. The
side by side racing for second allowed Huelsbeck to check out on the rest of
the competitors and he built up a lead of nearly a straightaway by lap 10.
Biswell finally got the outside lane to work and was able to pass Moberly
for second as Steve Schulz and Dale Prunty entered the picture, setting up a
four-car battle for third.
Prunty’s car handled well on the high side and he soon advanced to third
place while Schulz began to slide around up top and fell back into a race
for the fourth spot with Schmitt and Jason Feyereisen. As the laps wound
down, the only difficulty Huelsbeck encountered was having to avoid Bill
Tandetzke’s spun car on the final lap as he drove to his first feature
victory of the season. Biswell finished a strong second and Prunty crossed
the line in third. Schmitt and Schulz rounded out the top five.
Earlier in the evening, Schmitt took top honors in the fast dash and
Feyereisen set fast time with a lap of 12.231 seconds.
May 15, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
David McCardle drove to his first career
feature victory in an exciting 25-lap Midwest Modified main event.
McCardle started on the pole and ran the opening laps alongside fellow front
row starter Russ Moberly while Steve Huelesbeck, Wes Biswell, and Jason
Feyereisen followed in their tire tracks. The field began to string out on
lap four as McCardle jumped into the lead while those behind him fell in
line after
Biswell experienced mechanical problems and exited the race. With McCardle
comfortably out front, the battle for second place between Huelesbeck and
Feyereisen heated up as they ran door to door in the middle stages.
Huelesbeck worked the inside line and Feyereisen held the high side while
Dale Prunty and Steve Schulz closed in right behind them. Huelesbeck muscled
his way into second place on lap 15 and the move dropped Feyereisen back to
fifth as Prunty and Schulz raced by on the inside. In the waning laps,
McCardle’s lead began to shrink and at the white flag he found himself
alongside a lapped car with the rest of the top five cars glued to his
bumper. The tangle of cars racing for the win produced some fireworks on the
final lap as contact between them resulted in Prunty spinning in turn three
while McCardle held on for the win. Huelesbeck finished second and
Feyereisen was third. Schulz and Ron Schmitt rounded out the top five.
Wes Biswell was the winner of the fast dash and Schulz set fast time with a
blistering lap of 12.081 seconds.
May 8, 2005; Slinger Speedway -
Ron Schmitt drove to a convincing win in the
eventful 25-lap Midwest Modified feature. Dave McCardle and
Steve Huelesbeck led the field the green and battled side by side for two
laps before Huelesbeck wound his car up on the outside to take the lead.
McCardle settled into second place just ahead of Wes Biswell, Jason
Feyereisen, and Dale Prunty. Huelesbeck’s car developed transmission
problems as flames shot out from under it as he entered turn one while
leading on lap five t o
bring out the first caution flag. McCardle took over the lead for the
restart but Feyereisen quickly got around him on lap six and began to pull
away from the field. Schmitt worked his way into the top five and a few laps
later, he also made his way around McCardle to grab second place. Feyereisen
appeared to have the event in hand but he too found misfortune at the head
of the pack as his car also developed mechanical problems and retired from
the race on lap 19, handing the lead to Schmitt. Schmitt maintained his
advantage over McCardle while Biswell and Steve Schulz staged a spirited
battle over the third position. Schmitt handily won the event to claim his
first feature victory of the season while McCardle finished a strong second.
Schulz edged Biswell for third place while Russ Moberly rounded out the top
five.
In other Midwest Modified action, Dale Prunty
won the fast dash and Schulz was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 12.285
seconds.
May 1, 2005; Slinger Speedway - The races were
"snowed out"! In an effort to get
some
racing in, they decided to speed up the events, so all fast dashes were
skipped and they jumped straight to the first Late Model feature. They
were also able to get the Sportsman feature in as well. The Modifieds
did not have a chance to race before the sleet and snow came down.
Dale Prunty had fast time for the Modifieds turning a 12.205 lap.
